Sunshine Blogger Award

Once upon a time (it was so long ago that it feels like a fairy tale), I was nominated by Leah @ Cary Grant Won’t Eat You for the Sunshine Blogger Award. Normally I don’t accept awards, but this format is super fun and I felt flattered. Said I’d post my answers in a week or two. That was…July? Maybe. Then I got busy with all the things. Most of you know what those things are, so I won’t go into detail here.

I have to go back to those things, but I just wanted to say, “Hey, thanks so much for the honor. Wish I could answer those cool questions. Thanks for making a girl feel all fancy and special.”

Awards Announcement!

Let’s be real: we enjoy receiving awards. They are sweet acknowledgments that readers like our blog. We appreciate everyone who has taken the time to nominate us for various awards these last few months. Unfortunately, we’ve lost track of a few of them and for that we apologize. Keeping awards in play is awfully time-consuming and repetitive: there are only so many personal facts we have to share. Frankly, we’d rather spend the time creating new content for the blog. Although we’ve no desire to hurt the feelings of our nominators, a compromise is definitely required.

It’s a work in progress so, whilst things are subject to change, here’s what we’ve come up with after much thought:

  • Any future awards will be immediately acknowledged, because we really are grateful! We will be up front if we do not have the time to pass them on. Please understand that we write and edit and create things for a living. This blog is not a hobby, but an extension of what we do in the real world. There are only so many balls we can keep in the air!
  • We are finally going to create a blogroll! There are so many amazing blogs that Kevin and I follow, and we’d love to share them with you. They are all worthy of your time and mental space. These blogs deserve all of the awards on WordPress.
  • We will do an occasional post spotlighting newly discovered awesome blogs.
  • In another effort to share the love with our favourite blogs, we will be creating our own award. I know, I know. Creating an award to make up for the fact that we receive too many awards to handle probably doesn’t sound like the most logical solution, but bear with us. This award will not require recipients to give it to others. It will make perfect sense when you have the details. More on that later.

ACKNOWLEDGMENTS:

Thank you, Morgan, from I am a heathen, for nominating us for the Versatile Blogger Award.

Blog of the Year 2012 Award-Fourth Star

A couple of weeks ago, Kelly Ann (aka NYMUSE88) of What’s Your Story? nominated me for the Blog of the Year Award 2012. I was too sick to accept it immediately, but I am still extremely grateful for the nod! It was my fourth star, which is exactly four more than I expected to receive. Since it is nearly February 2013, I’ve decided to abstain from nominating any more blogs for the award. I’ll settle for yelling my thanks and appreciation across the gaping chasm known as the Internet. I love all of the blogs I follow, comment on, and like. You all deserve hearty congratulations for being so awesome. Happy 2013!

Super Sweet Blogging Award

When I opened my inbox the other day, this lovely award was sitting there. Just waiting to be opened. Ourmulticolouredlife nominated me for the Super Sweet Blogging Award. I’ve never heard of this one, so it is extra special! I also get to answer questions about sweets, which doubles the fun.

Here’s Where I Spell Out The Rules:

  1. Thank the blogger(s) who gave you the award and link back to their blog.
  2. Nominate other blogs for this award and let them know.
  3. Post the award on your blog.
  4. Answer the 5 questions.

The 5 Questions:

  1. Cookies or cake? Both, depending on my mood and who does the baking.
  2. Chocolate or vanilla? I like dark chocolate and high quality vanilla.
  3. Favourite sweet treat? Pie.
  4. When do you crave sweet things the most? The mood for sweets strikes when the mood for sweets strikes!
  5. If you had a sweet nickname, what would it be? I have been called D-alicia-ous (delicious), which is a play on my name. Many have tried to get somewhere with that line. They’ve all failed.

Nominee:

The Flamboyante, because she has the sweetest blog I’ve seen.

One More Star to Cap the Year

Nicole of NMNPHX has nominated us for the Blog of the Year 2012 Award. It is our third star, which is three more than we anticipated receiving. What a wonderful way to end the year. Thank you, thank you! Pssst. You should really pay her blog a visit. It’s okay if you want to go now; I’ll wait. It was worth it, wasn’t it?

The ‘rules’ for this award are simple:

1 Select the blog(s) you think deserve the ‘Blog of the Year 2012’ Award

2 Write a blog post and tell us about the blog(s) you have chosen – there’s no minimum or maximum number of blogs required – and ‘present’ them with their award.

3 Please include a link back to this page ‘Blog of the Year 2012’ Award – http://thethoughtpalette.co.uk/our-awards/blog-of-the-year-2012-award/   and include these ‘rules’ in your post (please don’t alter the rules or the badges!)

4 Let the blog(s) you have chosen know that you have given them this award and share the ‘rules’ with them

5 You can now also join our Facebook group – click ‘like’ on this page ‘Blog of the Year 2012’ Award Facebook group and then you can share your blog with an even wider audience.

6 As a winner of the award – please add a link back to the blog that presented you with the award – and then proudly display the award on your blog and sidebar … and start collecting stars…

I am getting these nominations in just under the wire. It’s already Hogmanay and the clock is ticking away, so I am limiting myself to just two blogs. I recently started reading both of them, and couldn’t be happier that I discovered them. They are:

Vyvacious, serving up hilarity and food, with a tasty, tasty side of Batman.

Romancing the Bee, which makes urban beekeeping compelling. Bonus: lots of honey-licious recipes.

Enjoy!

Jennifer at Quirk’n It has nominated us for the Blog of the Year Award. It is our second star, which feels like an embarrassment of riches showering down upon our heads. Her photography blog is Amazing-with-a-capital-A, which is why it is one of my favourites. She is also the only other blogger I have ever met in real life, and she is as great in person as she comes across on the computer screen. Continue reading

Very Inspiring Blogger Award

Heading into this holiday season, we have so much to be thankful for: health, love, happiness, good friends, and our wonderful blog readers. Books at Middlemay Farm nominated us for the Very Inspiring Blogger Award, and we couldn’t be more honored.

  2. I have Obsessive-compulsive disorder, which makes my life extra interesting.
  3. Since May 2007, The Chef and I have lived in 3 apartments (all on the first floor) in the same renovated loft building. We love change, but are also really lazy.

ALL of you lovelies. During this peaceful holiday season, I cannot and will not choose favourites. I love every blog I read and follow. You know who you are, so congrats on being so awesome! I will leave you with this anticipatory ditty:

NMNPHX December Spotlight Awards Recipient

Nicole of  NMNPHX has selected A Small Press Life as one of the recipients of her Spotlight Awards, for the month of December. Every month, she aims her beam at just 3-5 blogs. We are truly excited and humbled to receive such a nice shout-out. If you’ve never visited her blog, you should check it out now!

Beautiful Blogger Award

Literature and Culture has nominated us for the Beautiful Blogger Award. What does this mean to us? We did some free association and jotted down the words that came to mind. We are: happy, elated, honored, humbled, gratified and grateful. The WordPress community is extraordinarily warm, diverse, open, helpful and giving. Enough with the superlatives, and on to the rules!

Beautiful Blogger Award

Beautiful Blogger Award

They are:

  • Thank the person who nominated you. Thanks again, Literature and Culture.
  • Post the award image to your page.
  • Tell seven facts about yourself.  I’m doing the honors on this one.
  1. October is my favourite month. I love the warm days and cool nights, falling leaves, hot apple cider, the smell of cinnamon…
  2. Breakfast is my favourite meal.
  3. I have green eyes.
  4. I hate everything about coffee.
  5. I am not a morning person. I am cranky and obtuse before 11:00 AM.  This has nothing to do with my refusal to drink coffee. Honest.
  6. I have the chronic inability to read one book at a time. I’m a juggler: I prefer to have 6 or 7 going continuously. When I finish a book, I add another to the rotation.
  7. I am obsessed with list-making. I create multiple lists a day, for a variety of things. I made a list about this list.
  • Nominate 15 other bloggers, and let them know about the nomination. I’m going to slack a bit on this part. Not because I am lazy, but because there are so many lovely blogs I enjoy reading on a daily basis that I cannot choose just 15. Not today, anyway. Chalk it up to a lack of coffee!
