Some Thoughts on Being Away and Getting Back on Track

  • It’s been nice writing post titles that do not contain the words goblins or Internet.
  • It takes days to go through more than a thousand e-mails.
  • Writing is, as I’ve known since the age of 6, nearly as important to me as breathing.
  • However, there is more to life than filling up blank page upon blank page. It’s important to enjoy the concrete pleasures of the real world on a steady basis.
  • The active spaces between writing are actually what makes writing possible in the first place. It is where perspective originates.
  • I cannot stop thinking like a writer. It is how I view the world, how I filter my experiences, how I am wired.
  • Writing is both a compulsion and a privilege.
  • There are few things in this world greater than an unchecked, wanton reading spree.
  • Writing keeps my life organized.
  • Writing abets my sanity.
  • I have a lot of catching up to do, both on here and with my freelance work.
  • My sense of purpose has been renewed.
  • I have the best readers in the world.

  1. What is it about bullet-point lists that can feel so much more satisfying than paragraphs? Is it because they’re rare? Or because they encourage us to keep each thought whittled to one pithy sentence?

I like really like one-sentence thoughts.

I also relate to (if not flat-out FEEL) almost all of these feelings, and I’d forgotten a few. Thank you for reminding me, and everyone!

    • Bullet-points are a refreshing change of pace. They are so smartly lined-up and efficient in their brevity.

You are welcome! I’d forgotten a few of them myself. It was nice to be reminded, even at the expense of not being able to do my job for several days due to the whole no functioning Internet thing.

  2. I feel terribly guilty when I have not been writing and it has been difficult due to packing up for the seasonal migration and suffering with a long bout of bronchitis that has left me exhausted. But I try to keep up with your posts, maedez, as they are something I always look forward to.

    • I cannot imagine doing a seasonal migration. It would be too hard to decide which books I need to take and which it is okay to leave behind. I always feel guilty about not writing, too. I hope you are feeling better.
