Arthur Rackham is simply unique. He gave those tales their inherent seriousness and elegance,a far cry from their present status which sees them being transformed into cartoons!
I’m buying a Folio Society edition of the Grimm Fairy Tales featuring the drawings of Rackham, and your post tells me that I am making the right choice.
His works for Peter Pan are also mesmerizing.I haven’t seen better drawings for this book – as for everything he’s worked for – so far!

Fairy Tales were also taken much more seriously as literature then than now. Rackham’s illustrations certainly did the stories justice.
Enjoy your Grimm Fairy Tales book. It sounds absolutely delicious!

LOVE! You single-handedly whisked me back to my childhood library. I had one book with Arthur Rackham illustrations. I have GOT to find that! have a much bigger appreciation now that I’m all “grown up.”
