I love the painting by James E. Macdonald – he was one of the Group of Seven, a group of Canadian guys who would go out and paint the wilderness of the north. Some of the paintings were also of city and village life – snow was present in many of them. Tom Thomson was one of the group and is one of my all-time favorite artists. He used to paint on little cigar box lids.

I was totally unfamiliar with Macdonald until I came across this painting, which instantly grabbed me. Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge about him, I appreciate it! Now I must go Google Tom Thomson. I like the idea of the cigar box lids, too.

I love the summery-vacation, beach-themed items. So fitting for the last weekend of summer…

That is why I included them, although I keep telling myself that it was the last *big* weekend of summer. Technically, we have a bit more time before it is officially autumn. 🙂 The fact that it is still 90 here helps.
