Once Upon a Time, I thought preparing to move house whilst my husband headed out-of-state on an extended business trip was a fantastic idea. “I know! I’ll sort through and pack all of our belongings, edit a book, work on two short stories, create a few new web-sites, launch marketing campaigns for totally disparate projects, maintain a full freelance and blogging load, take the dogs on long walks several times a day, do yoga 5 times a week, and plan a fun event at a local gallery. I have the energy of an overzealous rabbit high on pure sugar. It’s just waiting to be harnessed. Nothing about this plan is the least bit wonky. Of course, I can cram-jam this ambitious laundry list of goals into a 6-week period. Because, because…I will it to be so.” The Chef hasn’t even left town yet, and I am already exhausted. All I want to do is take a scalding bath and weep, followed by 42 melting and aimless days in a fluffy, warm bed-haze.

Oh, hey there Ophelia!
know what you’re talking about… just yesterday I realized I still lack a specific quality: the ability to ask for help…

Although I am a perfectionist, I have no problem asking for help. Unfortunately, I can hardly ask someone else to do my writing and editing and marketing for me. Boo. 😦

too true… I’m on my way to the kitchen – trying the “green tea thing”… 😉

I hope the green tea worked for you!

Haha, thank you Judy. I will certainly try.

Good luck with that :). Pints of green tea might help.

Lots of tea, black, a little bit of wine, and the occasional glass of Scotch. 🙂

I’m gonna go out on a limb here and say you haven’t moved house very often? I read your first sentence and the memory of my multiple house moves set me rocking back and forth in my seat – I did the weeping bit often so I can sympathize. Keep your chin up.

Oh, no. I have moved house very, very often. This will be our 5th place in 7 years (and my 10th in 14 years). Fortunately, the last two times we just moved down the hall (and back). I am looking forward to the end result, but not the process itself. I am doing all I can to not curl up in a ball and rock back and forth.

You are a brave woman and you have my admiration. If we ever move again I’m running away 😉 My thoughts are with you.

Thanks! I honestly want to put my head in a hole and hide until it is over. I know that it will be worth it, which is what keeps me going! 🙂

And, where, pray tell, are you moving to?? First I have heard this news!!

We want to rent a house with a small backyard for the dogs! We are still looking and won’t be moving until late May, anyway. We hope to stay within about 5-10 minutes of our current neighborhood. So, not far!

Great pairing of art with your post. Waterhouse? Love his Lady of Shallot also. They were enamored of doomed women. Good luck getting on with getting on with it.

Thanks, it is a standby of mine for when I am in a certain mood. I believe this is her third appearance on the blog. 🙂 The painting is Ophelia by John Everett Millais.

I totally understand you. I am one of those people that complains that they don’t have enough downtime but when it does come, I can’t thrive! Running around is how I can be the most creative. A week lounging in the mountains is perfect but them I’m itching to get moving again until I crash and wear yoga pants for 24 hours straight. It’s a vicious cycle but that’s what happens when you’re ambitious.

Oh, exactly. I always feel like I need to be doing at least two things at the same time. For instance, I cannot just watch television. I get too antsy and feel like I am slacking creatively and/or intellectually. My mind is always so full of ideas that I hate to step back for too long.

Yes! I go on vacation next month. Let’s see how I deal with relaxation. I always have a notebook with me to scribble in.

Have fun! I hope you are going somewhere sunny and lovely. I travel everywhere with way too many tiny notebooks. It’s a problem. 😦
