Interesting. I only recognised 4 of those – The Hobbit, The Cat in the Hat, A Clockwork Orange and Jurassic Park. Most of the rest were, I assume, book jackets on US editions? UK editions had very different covers. So it depends where in the world you read the book, I guess, as to whether youthink these book jackets are iconic.
Yes, these are all American editions. Although I am reasonably familiar with covers of international editions of books (mostly because it is part of my job), it is understandable if the majority of non-US based readers have not seen most of these. The only one I am surprised you have not seen is The Great Gatsby, only because that cover is the original edition from the first printing back in 1925 and has since been re-used. The book and its cover art are legendary, and definitely go beyond mere American association. This is a great explanation. What is your favourite UK-based book cover of all time?
I recognize them all. They are so iconic to me. As I was scrolling through I kept thinking, “I love that one most!” And then I will see the next and think, no, that one!

“The Grapes of Wrath” cover is gorgeous. Also, I am so pleased that children’s books made the list too. It’s a truly democratic list!

I have a print of the “Grapes” cover in my studio. It is one of my favourites. I agree about the variety on the list. It was nice to see a good mix.
