  1. Interesting. I only recognised 4 of those – The Hobbit, The Cat in the Hat, A Clockwork Orange and Jurassic Park. Most of the rest were, I assume, book jackets on US editions? UK editions had very different covers. So it depends where in the world you read the book, I guess, as to whether youthink these book jackets are iconic.

    • Yes, these are all American editions. Although I am reasonably familiar with covers of international editions of books (mostly because it is part of my job), it is understandable if the majority of non-US based readers have not seen most of these. The only one I am surprised you have not seen is The Great Gatsby, only because that cover is the original edition from the first printing back in 1925 and has since been re-used. The book and its cover art are legendary, and definitely go beyond mere American association. This is a great explanation. What is your favourite UK-based book cover of all time?
