We spent Christmas Day at my grandparents’ house with my extended family. Up and back in one day, a smooth drive, no worries. We had no idea that, whilst we were opening gifts and eating entirely too much decadent food, a blizzard was traveling this way. It is here now, and I wish that I could say it is as pretty as a picture. It isn’t, so I am leaving you with these lovely paintings instead. Please look at them to your heart’s content; I will be off in the corner munching on left-over cookies and writing my blogging game plan for 2013. See you tomorrow!

Winter Landscape: Washington Bridge, by Ernest Lawson. 1907-1910. Brooklyn Museum.

Blue Snow the Battery by George Bellows. 1910.
Stay safe and warm!

Thank you! We haven’t received as much snow as they said we would, but I still hate this weather.

It is even cold in Tucson but nothing like we experienced back East. I love George Bellows’ paintings – no one could capture cold and snow like him.

I am a few hours South of the snow belt here, so it hasn’t been too bad. I love George Bellows, and even come from the same home city as him.

Love the first painting. Are you getting hit now? I’m in MA and we’ve pretty much been buried in snow. Doesn’t look as pretty as the paintings.

Not like in the paintings! It wasn’t that bad, just a mixture of rain, ice and snow that wasn’t as extreme as we were led to believe it would be. We are not in the snow belt, so any snow in December is weird.

I love how winter looks quaint and charming, and not at all inconvenient in these paintings. They’re lovely!

Thank you so much! I had a wonderful holiday, and hope that you did, too. I am trying to stay serene but organized, if that is possible. Best wishes to you in the New Year!
