This reminds me of something I heard the other day: A professor at an art school in the city near us is asking for donations of manual typewriters. He’s teaching a class this semester that REQUIRES the use of manual typewriters. Assignments done via computer will not be accepted.
He’s making a statement about technology ruling our lives and encouraging his students to explore creativity apart from it. He says he wants to have the sound of coffee shops ring with the clatter of typewriter keys!
That is amazing! I have an electric typewriter that I use for some of my collages and ‘zining projects, but I would love an old manual one. I wish that our numerous coffee shops would ring with the clatter of typewriter keys. That would be lovely.
