“Thank God I have the seeing eye, that is to say, as I lie in bed I can walk step by step on the fells and rough land seeing every stone and flower and patch of bog and cotton pass where my old legs will never take me again.”-Beatrix Potter

“I have forced myself to contradict myself in order to avoid conforming to my own taste.”-Marcel Duchamp
I can relate to Beatrix Potter – I hope I can walk in the fields with my eyes when my legs won’t carry me anymore. In fact, I just walked in the back field because I saw a white creature whom I thought was a missing dog but in fact turned out to be a really big white cat. I found some pink yarrow on the way.

It sounds like you live in quite the wonderland, Judy. Sometimes I wish I had unkempt fields to traverse, with my loyal dogs gamboling at my side. I would likely grow weary of it after a few weeks, but it always sounds so nice in theory. I love pink yarrow, too. Your description has the makings of a short story.

Go for it, maedez. I live on five acres of mountain meadow in Colorado. There are little ranchettes all round and I am absolutely delighted when I see the horses getting frisky, running with joy. I do not have horses – they cost an arm and a leg to maintain. As my husband would say about me.

Even though we moved a few miles outside of the city, I am still really urban. I love vacationing in the country, but my head always sends me back to urban landscapes. I grew up in a rural suburb (well, from the age of 11) with many horse farms, and I do love those animals. Just not enough to live in the country.

I like to be near urban areas, particularly if there is a university and theater, maedez. I think we need the stimulation.

I love the Marcel Duchamp quote. It’s quite smart I think, to contradict ourselves in enough areas over life, that we keep going deeper (learning about ourselves and our world).
Great quotes.
How is the new studio space going?

Oh, I totally agree!
The new studio space is pretty much finished. I have to hang some artwork and sort through papers, but other than that it is pretty good to go. I am really excited!

I wasn’t aware of their mutual birthday! I love Potter and Duchamp – but for very different reasons 😉 Duchamp was ahead of his time

I love the strange combos of people born on the same day, which is why I just recently started doing these mashups.
He was totally ahead of his time. I think that, at least for the average American sensibility, he is still ahead of his time.

Just saw an original illustration of Peter Rabbit that Potter gave to the NYPL. I so want to frame it to sit upon my imaginary mantel.
