Great article. Surely the Buendia family in 100 Years of Solitude deserve a shout… although maybe not in the conventional sense of dysfunctional.

I think it is interesting. The main reason I like linking to these lists is because it invites people to leave their choices. Like you did here. It makes one think.

Maybe it’s because a bunch of those are contemporary, but I feel like there are better options. More dysfunctional families from classic literature.

I actually agree, but then I am a classic and obscure literature lover (which, of course, you know if you are reading this blog). I decided to post this, figuring that at least some of my readers must be more into contemporary literature than I am.

You know, I’m glad Amelia Bedelia made the list because I think she’s the single most annoying figure in children’s lit. I’m glad others agree with me.
To this day her pet phrase sticks in my head: “If a job is worth doing, it’s worth doing well.” See what I mean? She NEVER GOES AWAY.

I hate Amelia Bedelia. There. I said it. I hated those books as a kid. Absolutely hated them.
