Daily Diversion #81: The Crud Strikes Again

“Illness is the most heeded of doctors: to goodness and wisdom we only make promises; pain we obey.”-Marcel Proust

I’ve been down since Thursday with what my husband calls The Crud, a hazy combination of the ‘flu, a bad cold, and general malaise. The bottom of my favourite tea canister is visible, the bag of cherry lozenges empty; work is piled high by the bed, and I am cranky. Sleep and reading have been my twin graces. I am almost ready to crawl back into the murmur and hum of the wider world. Almost. Right after I finish one more chapter each of four books and drain the amber liquid from my tea-cup.

Concrete beauty in the midst of delirium.

Concrete beauty in the midst of delirium.

Concrete beauty in the midst of delirium.

Concrete beauty in the midst of delirium.

    • There is always an upside! I like that shot, too. 🙂

Just when I think I am feeling better, The Crud smacks me back down. I have so many things to do, I need to kick it to the curb soon!

      • lol! I hate being sick, so I empathize. Totally unrelated, but yesterday, Cuddles charged through a metal gate and chewed off one of the wooden posters on the gate in the kitchen! I hope she is just going through a phase …

      • She might not completely grow out of it, but if she is like my Duncan she will eventually become choosier about what she chews. For awhile, he chewed everything. L even had to get a new phone. Now, he sticks to socks and paper of any kind. 🙂

  1. Getting sick during the holidays is lousy. The best thing about being sick is getting to miss work. 🙂 The crud is definitely the pits. Hope you get to feeling better soon.

    • Thanks! My husband had The Crud going into the December holidays and I have it exiting the holidays. Hopefully, this is it for both of us for awhile. I am my own boss, so I totally gave myself permission to miss work. 🙂

  2. It’s hard to picture someone as pretty as you with the Crud. Everyone I know has it, had it or is going to get it. Unless you live in the sunny Southwest, but we have no more room and no water for tea.

    • Thanks, but trust me when I say I fully have The Crud. I think I am getting better, so fingers crossed. I know countless people who are sick, so there is definitely something making the rounds. Enjoy your sunshine, and I will enjoy my water for tea!

  3. Love the 3 1/2 month old do! It suits you. At the risk of sounding maternal, if you’re running a fever please check in with your doc or nurse practitioner. Hugs and I believe tea is a magic tonic 😉

    • Thanks! Going blonde took so many hours, that I am wedded to it for awhile.

No worries about sounding maternal. I gave Jennifer a hard time because I can! I actually do not have a fever, which is definitely in my favour. Of course, that hasn’t prevented me from feeling like crap. Tea is absolutely a magic tonic. It is one of the best things in all of creation.

    • I know. It’s such a helpless feeling! I am going to rectify it tomorrow, by purchasing an emergency box of tea. Unfortunately, I cannot get to my favourite tea purveyor until Wednesday. Alas!
