Bittersweet. Awesome cause, but sadly it is one. I loved Vonnegut in high school. Literature helped teach me to think critically, and also for myself. I wish I could visit him … and photograph him too! 😀
I read Vonnegut for the first time as a high school Junior, in my AP English class. (Later that year I won a school acting award named after him.) I love him just as much for his powerful spirit as for his writing. His non-fiction work is wonderful, too. He is missed.
I agree that literature helps with critical thinking, among many other things!
This guys sounds like he’s going to be busy while he’s in his “cell”. I’m not convinced that a week is enough time to do all the things he plans to do. I’m serious!
He definitely bit off a lot but I will give him the benefit of the doubt. I know that I can accomplish a ridiculous amount of work on a deadline, including throwing together the literary section of a magazine in three days. Adrenaline is a powerful motivator!
Only about 10 pages, with all of the research done ahead of time. Just editing of accepted submissions and writing of my articles, reviews, miscellany and letter from the editor. It really is not that bad. Honest. Especially if you love a good deadline as much as I do!

A magazine literary section in three days? That is just not human. 😉
