Daily Diversion #19: Wherin I Show Off This Lovely Sunset and Admit to Not Being Romantic

The sunset was almost enough to make romantics of us. I grasped his hand, compelled by nature to some kind of entry-level giddiness. I un-curled my toes and kicked the cool sand; it rained lightly over furtively scrambling ghost crabs. The dog whined on-leash. Bending over, a head pat; standing up on tip-toes, a hug and quick caress. Then one of us broke the sustained peace of the ocean breeze and lapping waves with a bad joke or punch on the arm. Ha, back to normal we went. Quickly, inward, like a collapsing house of cards. Laughing. Unromantic and inappropriate. Wisecracking. Bantering like Grant and Hepburn. Our normal. Content.

    • Thank you! I swear that every shot from our honeymoon turned out beautifully. Then again, everything we saw was just so lovely! Neither The Chef or I are romantic but we are both considerate and thoughtful, which can almost pass for romantic sometimes. We just are not hearts and flowers, V-day celebrating type of people. 🙂

      • Romantic holidays grate on my nerves. Now, my birthday is another matter. Ha. Not that I like to do hearts and flowers then, either! He even proposed to me on a sidewalk downtown. No bended knee. No speech. Just those 4 words. No engagement ring (not my thing). But we both cried during our wedding!

      • Aww, that’s very sweet! I didn’t have an engagement ring, either. I didn’t have a wedding, but I didn’t want one. I just dislike ceremonies … I dunno … I’ve never been big on holidays or traditions. I celebrate holidays for my daughter, though. I do like Halloween! 😀

      • That’s funny-my husband’s birthday is on Halloween. We had a party with a wedding in the middle of it, very weird and un-wedding-like. We had a ‘public’ celebration for the sake of our family and friends, as a kind of thank you. It was odd and lots of fun. The most traditional aspect of the day was the fact that we actually got married! 🙂 And I am a sucker for holidays, not because of a sentimental attachment to tradition but as an excuse to make merry (as if I really need that…).
