“Fashions fade, style is eternal.”-Yves Saint Laurent
Françoise Sagan was the ultimate cool girl writer. If you believe that style should be effortless and detached, then she is your muse. Even today, a wardrobe like hers can take you almost anywhere, and anywhere it can’t you probably don’t want to go.
The writer looking brilliantly modern. Oh, that skirt! That shirt! That hair!
Her uncomplicated look remains fresh more than five decades later. Who needs nail varnish and lipstick when you can look like this? She is proof that decadent lives do not need visible gilding.

I’ve always thought classic and tailored was best.

It really suits some people more than others, though. I personally dress in themes, which sometimes includes the classic looks seen here, sometimes not. Françoise rocked it big time!

Yes, sometimes the tailored classic is not practical in a Western town. Denim shirts and jeans are but they are classics in their own way.

True! Sometimes it all comes down to lifestyle.

Yet another writer I’ve not heard of. I did an online search, and what an eventful life she had! Plus, you’re right about her sense of style. She makes looking fabulous seem so easy.
I’ve bookmarked the Wikipedia entry about her, and will try to get some of her works at the library.
Thanks for this introduction!
