I read “I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings” as a young gal and it kind of blew my mind. I’m ashamed to say I’d never read anything by a female African-American author who also recounted her experiences with such raw honesty. I’ll never forget that experience of reading that book, which was like reading about another planet, and I’ll be always grateful.
So sad but that’s a pretty good innings. Wonderful woman and delicious writer.
