I wonder what book she is reading? It must be spring because she has a pile of “summer reading” books on the table. I just love this painting.

It’s delightful, isn’t it? We can decide for ourselves what she was reading, which is kind of magical. I imagine that she did not have much time for such leisure at this point in her (real) life, as she’d given birth to twins in 1887 and had another kid the year of this painting, 1888. She was probably much too exhausted to read!
