Interesting painting, maedez. Looking at the Venus’ pose, she could be doing the same thing as the standing woman – if she had arms. Love those cozy rooms with all their patterns and of course, always the books.
That is a very astute observation, Judy. Looking at the painting again, I totally agree. Oh, and I am such a sucker for scenes like this one-especially during autumn and winter!
I just saw the very top of the painting scrolling down in my reader and knew it was going to be your post. 🙂 It’s fun to get to know people’s style. Great painting.
Haha, busted! I know that my writing style is noticeably mine, but it has never occurred to me that my blogging content also has my weird personal stamp. The more you know! 🙂
I love the painting, too. It is another one of those scenes I wish I could crawl into.
I think you are totally off base – she is looking out of the picture at someone. It is Horace, her lover, who is reading another book. And she is all dressed up and saying “Let’s go! The carriage is waiting! Cousin Sophia expects us at three. I know you don’t like Sophia, but you have to buck up.”

I’d love to be in her clothes too. Your personal stamp is quite nice.

I love her hat and her shoes.
I bet there isn’t a single boring or poorly-written book on those shelves.

I agree! Her shelves just have to be bursting with the best, most interesting titles.
