My Anti-Heroine is Bossy!

The anti-heroine of my work in progress is bossy!

Jean Acker

She insists on looking like Jean Acker. I can’t say I blame her.

    • Jean Acker was an actress whose career lasted from the early silent era into the 1950s. She is mostly remembered for being Valentino’s first wife in a very ill-thought out marriage on her part (she was otherwise a lesbian and their courtship was quite brief). She was really quite fascinating, and is the perfect aesthetic model for my anti-heroine (the story is set in 1923).

      • You can imagine the number of marriages that were made for the sake of propriety and public image, especially among movie stars. Mickey Rooney, everyone’s adorable guy next door, was, according to former wife, Ava, a raunchy little fellow. Anyway, this story you are writing sounds fascinating.

      • Absolutely, although that was less of a thing in the early 1920s than what it became later.

Oh, Mickey and Ava! I love her account of their marriage in her autobiography.
