Middlemarch is my favorite book of all time!! Most jealous of George Eliot–always try not to let my envy spoil my reading enjoyment. Always wonder why the prof didn’t make us read her instead of the second-rate feminist authors she gagged me with at university. She wrote with such intelligence and compassion for both men and women. I can’t get enough of that! Cool post, yet again.
I love George Eliot, and have, of course, read Middlemarch several times. It is kind of hard not to be jealous of her, isn’t it? Sigh, one can just use her as an example of what is possible and move forward from there. I’m about to start Adam Bede again.
I think there was a movie made about Iris and John – it was very good but I do not recall the name of the movie. Well, I can look it up.

I am shocked – shocked! – that Anais Nin was married to a banker. Had NO idea.
