I have read other poets who believe life experience is what you have to write about. In Dickinson’s case, she would have been experienced in death, isolation and nature despite living most of her life in one room, in one house. Just goes to show….
That is very true. It all goes back to the old saying of writing what you know. Dickinson certainly did, and our American poetic canon is that much richer.
