She was the only woman and the only American impressionist, living in Paris and hanging out with the boys and yet, she is not hung with them at The Art Institute of Chicago. Sometimes her work is not shown at all. Sexism at it’s best.
My mom has always loved her work, so I grew up with it. I agree that the women Impressionists are largely ignored, and we both know why! Don’t forget Berthe Morisot (whose work I’ve also loved my entire life) and the almost entirely forgotten Marie Bracquemond. They were original women Impressionists, too!
The thing that annoys me about Cassatt’s treatment is that products bearing her work are everywhere, yet as you said her actual paintings are often ignored.
Her work is wonderful.
