- Title: Nancy Drew’s Guide to Life
- Author: Jennifer Worick
- Year Published: 2001 (A Running Press Miniature Edition)
- Year Purchased: December 2012
- Source: Fred Flare
- About: Nancy Drew’s best quotes, sorted into eight self-help type categories: Survival Strategies; Dating: A Primer; Sleuthing 101; The Delicate Art of Etiquette; Wilderness Tips; On Being a Lady; Powers of Observation; Accoutrements. Whatever your feelings about the Nancy Drew series are, you’ll think these out-of-context quotes are hilarious. If you don’t, well, that’s a bigger mystery than anything the girl detective ever solved.
- Motivation: Tiny books practically scream, “I’m a stocking stuffer.” I bought two copies of this book for just that reason, plus a third to keep.
- Times Read: 1
- Random Excerpt/Pages 103 and 94: “Never lose your girlish glee when your dad buys you a ticket to Hong Kong.”/”If a bleeding, screaming man runs from shore and starts swimming frantically toward your boat, you should probably help him out. He might be escaping from cruel employers.”
- Happiness Scale: 10
I love tiny books! Especially if they impart useful information I could use to lead a better life.

Tiny books are definitely hard to resist! I’m not sure how useful this book really is, although there are a few nuggets of actual good sense in its pages. It’s mostly funny and a bit nostalgic.

I like the specificity of ‘cruel employers’. there’s no chance it’s anything else.

Yes, judging by these quotes she had a lot of oddly specific concerns…

That is easily a quarter of its charm. 🙂

I love all the old, original Nancy Drew books! It was so nice to read about a young woman whose whole life wasn’t geared toward one day getting a man and spitting out babies.

I loved them so much when I was in elementary school. They were hand-me-downs from my aunts (who are 12 and 14 years older than me). She was a great early role model.

I have this book and it is a gem. That Nancy Drew tells it like it is.

Yes, yes she does. Sometimes, “how it is” is ridiculous. Sometimes, “how it is” brilliantly logical. It is always interesting, and fun!
