I haven’t read the article yet, but it sounds good and I bookmarked it. Reminded me, though, of a different thing I read this past week–a letter from Ted Hughes to their son, Noah. I can’t remember where it was now … anyway, it was very touching, and I’m pretty iffy about Hughes as a person.

It’s a nifty little article. I think you will like it a lot.
I’d love to read that letter. It sounds fascinating. I’m not iffy about Ted Hughes as a person; I’ve always found him pretty revolting, but truly fascinating. And I hate myself for that. I don’t know if you know, but Plath and Hughes’ son Nicholas(who grew up to be a biologist in Alaska) killed himself 3 1/2 years ago. Another tragedy for that family.

Yes, the letter was to Nicholas. I made a mistake and called him Noah. Found the link, here it is: http://www.lettersofnote.com/2012/09/live-like-mighty-river.html –Agree, Hughes is revolting, but I have never really been that crazy about his poetry, either.

Thanks for the link! I will definitely check it out today.
I’ve always run hot and cold with Hughes’ poetry. I like aspects of his work, but have never been able to love any of his poems in their entirety. Plus, he was an ass. Perhaps that knowledge is what holds me back?

Haha! I’ll admit that I am a bit biased, yes. I just can’t read one without thinking about HIM. I mean, good grief.

Well, once you know even a smidge about Hughes it is pretty hard to think about anything else when reading his poetry.
