Fascinating. The Daisy Buchanan/Ginerva King made my eyes get buggy with curiosity! I was a bit surprised at the Anne Shirley/Evelyn Nesbit. She is just so not Anne of Green Gables to me.
I think we are so accustomed to picturing Anne as looking like Megan Follows that it can be a bit disconcerting to realize that Evelyn Nesbit was, indeed, the model for the character. The photo accompanying the article is probably not the best example; there are plenty images of her looking innocent, fresh, and naive, including the one that inspired Lucy Maud Montgomery. If you’ve never read it, you should totally check out American Eve by Paula Uruburu. It is a fantastic exploration of EN’s life leading up to the murder of Stanford White by her husband, Harry Thaw. Her story is disturbing and infuriating but entirely compelling.
