I have been too busy to do much reading this month, but, between now and Halloween, I’m going to try my best to make up for lost time.

I hear ya! I love a good mystery that has twists and turns and just when you’re sure you have it figured out BAM it winds up being the person you least expected.
Please share some of your favorites with me. I’m always looking for a good read from friends who also like a good mystery.
I took a chance with Nickless because it was free on Amazon Unlimited and I’m really happy I did, this was a great book it had everything I look for in a great read.
I cut my teeth on Agatha Christie mysteries when I was only a babe in my teens so my expectations are really high lol.

When it comes to mysteries, I am pretty open-minded. However, I do like a lot of the older series (think Brother Cadfael, the Anne Perry books, and of course anything by AC), as well as more obscure one-offs that my mother loans me. My absolute all-time fave series is Nero Wolfe by Rex Stout. Nothing will ever beat Nero and Archie, in my book.

Let’s say you want to sell me on the character. What is the first book I should absolutely, positively read. Since we seem to have the same taste in mysteries I trust your suggestion. I also really look forward to it lol.

Well, since you asked! I’d start with The Rubber Band. It contains most of the classic Nero Wolfe ingredients. It’s very satisfying. You’ll have to let me know what you think.

Just started “Mastering the Art of Soviet Cooking” by Anya von Bremzen, a look at the history of Russia/the Soviet Union since1910 via its food. Really enjoying it!
Recently finished “Max Perkins: Editor of Genius” by A. Scott Berg, and then saw the film with Colin Firth and Jude Law. Absolutely loved the book, and I thought the movie was a very good adaptation.
I’m curious to know what you think of “Shane” when you’re finished.

That Soviet cooking book sounds wonderful. A definite must-read, I’d say. Same for the Max Perkins book.
I’m only about 15% of the way through “Shane,” but I’m enjoying it so far. I’ll let you know my final verdict when I’m done.
