I have been too busy to do much reading this month, but, between now and Halloween, I’m going to try my best to make up for lost time.
Since 1st October, I’ve finished:
- Louisa Catherine: The Other Mrs. Adams by Margery M. Heffron
- Scatter My Ashes at Bergdorf Goodman by Bergdorf Goodman and Sara James Mnookin

Louisa Catherine Adams by Edward Savage, 1794
I’m currently reading:
- Shane by Jack Schaefer
- Prick Up Your Ears: The Biography of Joe Orton by John Lahr
To be read by 31st October:
- 100 Million Years of Food: What Our Ancestors Ate and Why it Matters Today by Stephen Le
- VJ: The Unplugged Adventures of MTV’s First Wave by Nina Blackwood, Mark Goodman, Alan Hunter, and Martha Quinn with Gavin Edwards
Which book on your list do you most look forward to reading, and why?
Please share it with me in the comments.
Happy reading!
I’ve been reading a lot of things but not finishing much. I keep loosing interest in everything.

I’ve been there before, and it is really frustrating! Fortunately, I’ve been on a winning streak reading-wise all year. Hopefully, you’ll find some good reads very soon.

I am currently reading “Blood on the Tracks” by Barbara Nickless a pretty good mystery that’s finding me turning the pages with anticipation of the next twist.

I enjoy a good mystery, but I’ve never read Barbara Nickless book. I’ll have to look into that.

I hear ya! I love a good mystery that has twists and turns and just when you’re sure you have it figured out BAM it winds up being the person you least expected.
Please share some of your favorites with me. I’m always looking for a good read from friends who also like a good mystery.
I took a chance with Nickless because it was free on Amazon Unlimited and I’m really happy I did, this was a great book it had everything I look for in a great read.
I cut my teeth on Agatha Christie mysteries when I was only a babe in my teens so my expectations are really high lol.
Thank you so much for taking the time to read and comment on my article I really hope to chat with you again.
Especially to pick your brain on mysteries. Take care of you.

Thanks so much for the great conversation!
When it comes to mysteries, I am pretty open-minded. However, I do like a lot of the older series (think Brother Cadfael, the Anne Perry books, and of course anything by AC), as well as more obscure one-offs that my mother loans me. My absolute all-time fave series is Nero Wolfe by Rex Stout. Nothing will ever beat Nero and Archie, in my book.
I appreciate you stopping by. Please do so anytime.

Ok, here’s your chance! Your comment on Nero Wolf has intrigued me. I’m always looking for a great mystery.
Let’s say you want to sell me on the character. What is the first book I should absolutely, positively read. Since we seem to have the same taste in mysteries I trust your suggestion. I also really look forward to it lol.

Well, since you asked! I’d start with The Rubber Band. It contains most of the classic Nero Wolfe ingredients. It’s very satisfying. You’ll have to let me know what you think.

Just started “Mastering the Art of Soviet Cooking” by Anya von Bremzen, a look at the history of Russia/the Soviet Union since1910 via its food. Really enjoying it!
Recently finished “Max Perkins: Editor of Genius” by A. Scott Berg, and then saw the film with Colin Firth and Jude Law. Absolutely loved the book, and I thought the movie was a very good adaptation.
I’m curious to know what you think of “Shane” when you’re finished.

That Soviet cooking book sounds wonderful. A definite must-read, I’d say. Same for the Max Perkins book.
I’m only about 15% of the way through “Shane,” but I’m enjoying it so far. I’ll let you know my final verdict when I’m done.
