I’ve no idea why anyone would lie about reading the Fifty Shades trilogy. I’d think the opposite would be true.

Interesting. There are definitely a few I didn’t read on that list. I’ll never read 50 shades, that’s for sure.

There are some books “everyone is supposed to have read”. Of course most of us haven’t read all of them. I’m not embarrassed by it, but I think some are. And if I had ever read 50 Shades, I would never, ever admit it. (I haven’t 😉 )

I’ve read most on the list (although no Harry Potter, because I was too old to find them interesting but too young to have kids of the right age). I would never, ever read 50 Shades but, if I did, like you I would deny it.

There are some surprises on this list. I didn’t expect to see Harry Potter, and I didn’t expect Dickens to be on the list 4 times. It shows what enduring power Dickens’ writing has, no? People are still reading him – and lying about reading him – all these years later.

Readers like to be thought of as well-read and knowledgeable it helps create a self- image.
Lots of internet jiggery pokery is to boost the ego — become someone.

I actually agree, though. People do this all the time, and mostly for the reasons you state.

I only read the first one quite good but its the sexual content that attracts readers. I’m old enough to remember Lady Chatterly and it was the same. Lawrence has got something unique to say which makes it interesting.

Sex always sells, true! At least Lawrence could write, though, which makes a huge difference.

I think it is easy to forget some books, but these in particular? I don’t quite buy that. 🙂
