[A Holiday Shopping Spree for the Bookworm] First Stop: Edward Gorey House Store

I love bookish goodies almost as much as I love actual books, and reading. Being a bookworm is not a hobby: it is an all-enveloping, personality-defining lifestyle. The holiday season is in full-swing, which means that it is time to go shopping-the literary way! Over the next two weeks, I am going to take you on a virtual bookish shopping spree to some of my favourite lit sites! Let’s get started.

EDWARD GOREY HOUSE STORE

There is no better way to show your love for one of America’s most unusual creative talents than by purchasing merchandise directly from the Gorey House in Yarmouth Port, Massachusetts. The creator of the iconic The Gashlycrumb Tinies lived in the house for twenty-one years; it is now a museum.

The selection of Gorey goodies offered is impressive. Be sure to spend time perusing all of the categories, or you’ll risk missing the perfectly whimsical gift for that someone special.

  1. “Being a bookworm is not a hobby: it is an all-enveloping, personality-defining lifestyle.” Ha ha, this could not be more true! When people ask me if I like to read I feel like I should always reply with, “No it’s not that I just like to read, I’m a reader,” as if it’s a specific personality type. Which it is! Looking forward to reading about your literary finds this season.

    • It’s definitely a specific personality type! At least for me, it is so deeply ingrained that I’d be an entirely different person without it…

I’m posting the next shopping stop on Monday. Thanks so much for tuning into the series.

    • Oh, I’d love to see an exhibit of his original artwork. How lovely!

The second installment of the shopping spree goes live in about 35 minutes, so there is (perhaps) even more procrastination on the horizon…

      • I remember in the exhibit, the additional information said he was not a fan of children even though he created so many works for them.

I think I’ve read about other writers for children who actually are not fond of them. Such a weird quirk.

      • I’ve read that, too. It takes a special skill set to create such fabulous things for an audience you are not crazy about. I am also not a fan of children, and cannot imagine writing books for them. I don’t think I could disguise my utter lack of interest.
